Uptown Downtown
More practice with night portraits at Town Lake Park overlooking downtown Austin’s ever-evolving skyline. Pictured here is Jillian who was kind enough to watch my camera setup while I ran back to my car to retrieve a piece of gear. I think she secretly wants to be a fashion model. She was very patient while I fumbled with my camera trying to get the settings just right. This is one of the last exposures I took. Figured I should stop while I was ahead.

Sand. Everywhere she looked there was sand. She hated sand. The way it would constantly persist. On and on… she hated it. “Why did you roll in it”, he asked. “I win now,” she smiled and went off to the water.
Setting sun is behind her. Speedlight is over my right shoulder high on a stand and slightly behind her. It is set to beat the sun by one stop. (One stop brighter than the sun light, not the shadow light.) Second speedlight is set to farther camera left and coming down on her slightly from the top. It is set to match the other strobe ad becomes the main. You can see the effect on her left arm as it doesn’t fade to black. The sun gives a small rimlight on the edges.
Minimal Photoshop.
Lots of showering to remove the sand.
Hey… it was her idea!!!!
