I saw so many pictures of her on Internet, I was keen to meet her but she kept hidden.
I than met her cousin Hemaram Bopa and his wife Santosh, singing in the sunset with their daughter Rajuri. They told me Pappu suffered from the loss a her new born son, ten days ago. The poor baby breathed one hour and gasped… By chance she already has two daughters and one son.
We arranged a meeting for the next morning, and Hemaram took me to the young lady. She new I was coming, she was dressed in full attire. We spent the day all together with her familly, talking of their musical tradition.
I asked Pappu if her photo taken by so many people had do her some good, the response was « yes ». A couple from Holland has publish a booklet and given some money wich allowed her to rent a small house near Pushkar, a man has buy a little shop for her. She got much relief from this. Her husband was there all the time, he said he didn’t mind foreigners taking pictures of his wife. He did’nt see her before wedding, since they had the traditionnal « arranged mariage » currently performed in India. I guess you know he is happy… Pappu devi, that's how he call her. And so she is.
